Ali Dere marks an introduction to Malawi’s Faith Mussa – a unique and multi-faceted talent. This one-man-band sings and plays a huge range of instruments simultaneously, including traditional ones such as badza, manjerenjeza and the mbalule. His unique balance of skill, wisdom & fun are on full display in this opening track.
Ali Dere, (meaning he/she is like this..) says to not speak of him if you don’t know him. Or else try to know him better first, you may miss the angel inside his heart. “Ali dere nkulinga utayenda naye” means; ’only a person who has stayed and lived with you can confidently say who you really are. The rest can be pretence.’
Faith’s universal messages are sung in both English and Chichewa – enabling them to reach everyone, drawing connections and understanding around the world.
A perfect start to an album full of surprises.
Ali Dere is the opening Single from Faith Mussa - in preview to the hotly anticipated LP: Kalilima – Forthcoming on Beating Heart - 26.07.19
Liked everything about this album but I felt the emcees took away from the music and the tracks would of been improved by their absence... The music deserved a deeper lyrical input than what the emcees were able to deliver... Still the music is dope... So swings and roundabouts DTOCS
